Glorifying God in All You Do!

As Christians I feel this is a very important topic for discussion.  Everything we do should bring glory to God.  1 Corinthians 10:31 says, “So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, it all for the glory of God.” Everything means everything!  Many Christians are straddling the fence.  On Sundays they are in church and praising the name of the Lord and then on Mondays they are sitting in the café gossiping with their friends about their neighbor.  Praising the name of the Lord definitely brings Him glory but do you think you think gossip brings glory to God?  Yet, we continue to do it. James 3:10 says, “Out of the same mouth come praise and cursing. My brothers, this should not be.” We know things are wrong but we continue to do it and scripture says this isn’t acceptable.  We continue to go out to the club, drink, smoke, party, and sleep around when we know that these things do not glorify the Lord in any way.  Why do you continue to do it?  It’s your flesh and your carnal nature.  According to Webster’s dictionary, Carnal nature
has to do with the body of flesh--opposed to spiritual. Fleshly, which implies a connection with the flesh, thought of as man's lower nature, which is not as condemnatory as carnal.

My brothers and sisters we cannot continue to say we love God but continue to live life any way we want to!  Lukewarm Christians will not inhabit the kingdom of God!  I’ve been a Christian since basically in the womb.  I got saved from a young age and I went to church every Sunday and attended a private, Christian school from ages 3-17.  I was involved in the youth programs the whole nine.  However, I never really took my Christian walk seriously.  I knew church but I didn’t know God.  It wasn’t until the summer of 2012 that I began to take my walk with God seriously through becoming frustrated with trying to lead myself through life when I had no Idea what I was doing.  Prior to this I loved listening to music.  Still do but as I said in a previous post I thought I wanted to work in music.  I listened to all music as long as it wasn’t demonic or satanic.  As if music from other non-Christian artists 100% wholesome!Confused? Let me explain, do you think Trey Songz talking about getting naked and taking your clothes off glorifies God? Yeah exactly! Anyways, I loved Chris Brown he was my favorite never missed a concert.  I loved all music from almost any artist but when I got my walk right with the Lord I discovered that if I was going to truly live for Christ I couldn’t listen to the music I use to listen to.  That means Chris Brown had to go! Along with Katy Perry, Wacka Flocka, Drake, Beyonce all of them had to go!  I couldn’t straddle the fence.  It wasn’t acceptable to listen to gospel & Christian music on Sundays but Monday-Saturday blasts my Chris Brown.  It was hard I wanted to listen to it but I couldn’t. I had to ask God to help me not desire to listen to that music I had listened to for over 10 years! It was a work in progress but today I don’t desire to listen to that music any longer.  In fact if I’m at an event or in the car and I hear music from those artists I can’t believe that I actually use to listen to it.  Have you ever stopped to listen to what they are actually saying?  Beforehand I would give the excuse “oh I don’t like the lyrics I just like the beat!” HA! Fail!  When you’re serious about your walk with Christ His desires become yours.  God surely wouldn’t want to listen to Chris Brown talking about “Imma take you down.” And I don’t want to either!  Now my iTunes library is full of Lecrae & Marvin Sapp! And I plan to keep it that way.

The way to validate whether or not that music, friendship, television show or whatever you do is bringing glory to God is to pretend God is with you wherever you go.  He’s sitting next to you on Saturday night as you watch that reality TV show with profanity being thrown around every two seconds.  He’s with you at the club with your friends while the garbage called music blares through the speakers.  He’s with you as you gossip about the girl that gets on your nerves.  STOP and ask yourself would God be pleased with this? What would God say about this song, TV show, going to the club, or you talking negatively about so and so?  What would He say? Would He approve?  Of course not! God would not approve of these things and you know it!  Romans 8:5-8 says, “Those who live according to the flesh have their minds set on what the flesh desires; but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires.  The mind governed by the flesh is death, but the mind governed by the Spirit is life and peace. The mind governed by the flesh is hostile to God; it does not submit to God’s law, nor can it do so. Those who are in the realm of the flesh cannot please God.

We have to make sure that everything we do would put a smile on His face not a stench in His nostrils.  We have to be intentional about our actions and what we do daily.  Once you do this you’ll start to realize that a lot of the things you do you should not be doing.  Then you must make a conscience effort to stop.  This may cause you to lose friendships.  But just know and trust in God that you will be better off.  And it’s going to be hard and at times it may seem easier to follow the ways of the world than to do what is upright and pleasing in the sight of the Lord but know that with every temptation the Lord provides an escape.  1 Corinthians 10:13 says, “No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it.” You must cry out and ask the Lord to help you.  Are you struggling with pornography, sex outside of marriage, adultery, smoking, drinking? Whatever it is give it over to God.  Ask him to help you to stop desiring these things that don’t glorify Him.  Pour your heart out to Him and ask for His help.  God loves to help us.  In our weakness He is made strong.  We cannot fight this battle alone we need God’s help.  Also know that change is not going to come over night & you're going to be tested.  You’ve spent years developing these habits it’s going to take a while to break them.  Be on your guard! The good news is that God is the ultimate warrior and He’s willing and ready to come to our rescue and help us win the fight!
